Lucy and Lincoln had so much fun pretending to be pioneers at the High Desert Museum the other week. On the way home Lucy asked if she could have a pump and wash tub in our backyard! She was enthralled to find out that I have an antique washboard so I decided I’d better get them a wash tub to go with it.
The shallow tub is a feed tub from our local farm store…I like it because it’s so shallow and is a lot safer than a deep tub, but the washboard still fits in it great. Black rubber…not as quaint as the one at the museum but it’s all good.
Busy, busy! And a wee bit muddy. I hung them a low clothesline too, and shared a bunch of my clothespins
Pinning wee clothes is great for fine motor skills development. I love Lucy’s look of concentration.
What are they “washing”? Doll clothes, and fabric scraps I gave them…later to become napkins at Lucy’s mud pie table.
The great amount of fun to be had from such simple things never fails to bring a smile to my face. They’ve been playing at washing clothes (and using the tub as a cauldron for making pear soup with the pears that fall out of the tree) for the last couple of weeks! So much fun.

Simply adorable and so healthy that your children play outside and use their imaginations,
So sweet!
I love watching them play in that magical setting.
